Get Kids Active

At Codona’s we encourage people to ‘Come Have some Fun!’, but we also believe that kids should be encouraged to be active and healthy too, and it’s with this in mind that we have created our ‘Get Kids Active’ intiative.

Being physically active every day is important for the healthy growth and development of babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers, and it is with this in mind that Codona's, and Smugglers Cove especially, offers this opportunity to let your child to be physically active, whilst having great fun. All our equipment in Smugglers Cove encourages discovery, both physically and mentally, and has been designed to provide kids with differing physical challenges, whether it be climbing, crawling, running, walking, swinging, lifting, pushing, rolling, and much more. This is the NHS Physical Activity Guidelines:

BABIES: Once babies can move around, encourage them to be as active as possible in a safe, supervised and nurturing play environment.

TODDLERS: Children who can walk on their own should be physically active every day for at least 180 minutes (3 hours). Active play, such as using a climbing frame, riding a bike, playing in water, chasing games and ball games, is the best way for this age group to be physically active.

UNDER 5’s: Children under 5 should not be inactive for long periods, except when they’re asleep. Watching TV, travelling by car, bus or train or being strapped into a buggy for long periods are not good for a child’s health and development. There’s growing evidence that such behaviour can increase their risk of poor health.

5 - 18 YEAR OLDS: Children and young people should minimise the amount of time they spend sitting watching TV, playing computer games and travelling by car when they could walk or cycle instead.

At least 60 minutes (1 hour) of physical activity every day, which should be a mix of moderateintensity aerobic activity, such as fast walking, and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, such as running.
